Shri Vikas Narwal, I.A.S

Managing Director
Indian Ports Association (IPA)

Dear Stakeholders,

Welcome to the official portal of the Indian Ports Association (IPA)—the apex body entrusted with advancing the operational, technical, and strategic imperatives of India’s major ports.

Since its inception, IPA has been at the forefront of policy formulation, standardization, and capacity building in the maritime sector. Our mandate is clear: create globally competitive ports. In alignment with the Government of India’s vision, IPA is spearheading transformative initiatives that will redefine the future of maritime logistics.

Our flagship programs include:

  • Cruise Bharat Mission: Positioning India in the competitive landscape of Cruising, more so in the Asia Pacific region; This through infrastructure development, regulatory facilitation, and global partnerships.
  • Green Port Program: Implementing sustainable practices, including green craft/tug transition, renewable energy adoption, and shore power infrastructure for major ports of India.
  • Digital Maritime Ecosystem: Deploying integrated platforms such as the Maritime Single Window (MSW) 2.0, Unified Maritime Information System (UMIS), and ONOP Digital Platform to enhance transparency and operational efficiency.
  • Capacity Building & Knowledge Hub: Establishing training academies/courses and research collaborations with leading institutions to nurture talent and foster innovation, deployable at ports.
  • Global Engagement & Policy Exchange: Actively representing India at leading international maritime forums, fostering dialogue and collaboration to share best practices, and learning from global policy frameworks and operational models.
  • Cargo Tariff Standardization & Modal Shift: Introducing uniform cargo tariff structures across ports to ensure transparency and ease of doing business, while promoting waterways and coastal shipping as sustainable, cost-effective alternatives to rail and road transport.
  • Infrastructure Financing & SPVs: Facilitating the creation of Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) for long-gestation projects and leveraging innovative funding models, including PPPs and blended finance, to accelerate port modernization and capacity expansion.

The maritime sector is a critical enabler of national growth, and IPA plays a crucial role in ensuring that India’s ports are future-ready, resilient, and aligned with global best practices. I invite you to explore our initiatives and join us in shaping a maritime ecosystem that reflects excellence and foresight.

Thank you for your continued trust and partnership.

Warm regards

Shri Vikas Narwal, I.A.S
